Supporting school leaders in the digital age.

Areas

AI policy and practice

States have been issuing guidance about AI in K–12 schools, and teachers are already making their own choices about it. My recent projects look at both: states’ AI policies, including how they address equity, and teachers’ AI practices. With Jayson Richardson, I’m also co-editing a two-volume special issue of Educational Policy on AI and educational policy.

Classroom management apps

Apps like ClassDojo have become part of how many schools handle discipline. My work examines how beliefs and practices relating to school discipline intersect with schools’ uses of these apps, including their implications for educational equity. More recently, I’ve looked at what the apps mean for parent-teacher relationships.

Data use and district leadership

My earliest work examined districts’ implementation of computer data systems. The aim then, as now, was to help schools and educators make the most of their knowledge about students.
